GATHERED ROSE TUTORIAL

I have had an idea of making a fabric rose for a while...today I tried it out. I have  made many ribbon roses over the years. This is a fabric rose made from a strip of fabric

Cut fabric to 55cm x 15 cm

Fold in half with right sides together.

Trace the sewing line from the pattern downloads provided on the cut edge of the fabric

Cut and clip the curves... the curves DO NOT have to be perfect.. as no flower is perfect

Turn out, so the right side can be seen...

Press with the iron.

Use the end with the more peak curve to start with.

Fold the outer edge in so it is flush with the folded side of the fabric as in the photo

Turn in to create the middle of the rose

Secure at the bottom with a couple of stitches..Now continue to turn the rose and secure slightly gathering the fabric as you go..  When finished fold the end of the fabric away from you and secure down with a few stitches.

Your rose is completed

This rose look great also when you press it flat with an iron.
I have made the above rose into a brooch.

This roses look fantastic on a bag.. and they can be made all types of sizes.. Just make the length of the fabric and the depth smaller or larger.
