The confessions of a Craftaholic

Firstly, those of you who leave comments regularly. I have now made my comments 'visable on approval' after getting a comment last night that wasnt so encouraging. The bag I made, was not obvioulsy everyones cup of tea and maybe the quilt but we carnt please everyone. The wool on the below bag were not my cup of tea at all...but I had no choice in the class. So I had to do what I could with what was available...as for the quilt I really dont have a problem with what people think of it... I like it and that ok with me. I have deleted the comment and will now only show on approval. It was not one of my followers that left the comment.

Also, if I get a person that publicly follows my blog that is 'dodgy' or is into the dark side of life I will delete them as a follower. I have done this twice now I look at my blogs as a community where we can enjoy each others creativity and get to know one another..its like having an online craft group. I try to visit everyone that joins me. I go through my followers list and try to visit when I can....one follower had a black blog that had gruesome picts of stuff and other things that made me feel gross...so I deleted them.

So, on to the more exciting things.... I have been away for the weekend and have not lifted a needle or thread. We had a lovely weekend away at a family picnic that our church puts on for the children annually. We had beautiful weather but it was extremely hot....and yesterday we had a Tsunami warning here in NZ after the devastating earthquake in Chile. We live right by a tidal river. It is about 2kms by boat out to the Auckland harbour from where we live. I must admit I was a little concerned as we are right down by the waters edge....beautiful outlook but abit of a worry when there is a warning like the above.

NOW CONFESSION TIME...

On Friday, before we went away I got all my UFO's out and took the picture shown. This was a very good exercise for me to do... I now have them all in one place in my craft room and I will now endeavour to work through them.

There is alot of things for me to work through in this rather large pile. I have 'An Angel Story Quilt' by Annie Downs, 'Around the Town BOM" by I dont know who, Clown Quilt (With some awesome applique) I have nearly finished all the blocks by Grandmothers Garden, 18!!!! Cross stitch kits... that was hard to type, a quilt that is in bright pinks and lime green...that I dont like but I have to finish..right??!! and alot of other things and I wont bore you with the details.

I hope you all had a great weekend or are still having it...we have gorgeous weather here in NZ at the moment and today is the first day of Autumn.

It is my birthday in a few days...and I have to say that I am not coping with turning 44 year old.  I know it sounds silly ... maybe its a bit of a midlife crisis... I really dont know.

Take care

Lisa

  1. Well, you look very young for 44 and I am even older this week, and not wearing nearly so well as you! I had an unpleasant comment once - it's not nice to get these so I do sympathize. I always enjoy admiring your creations anyway!

  2. Hi Lisa,
I so agree with you about the nasty comments, they are just not necessary. We all have very different tastes in life and we need to acknowledge these. A particular piece of fabric is not everyone's cup of tea, and we are very likely to all do something different with it. We should NEVER apologise for our uniqueness.
I too had a very unkind comment on one of my postings, I left it there, mainly because initially I was so shocked that it was written so nastily, and secondly - I felt others needed to see how cruel and unkind this person was. (which might not make me a very nice person either when I think about it)But basically I really didn't want to react to this type of comment. I do have to say I was pretty shattered by it so I can understand how you feel.

I love your work, and have seen many wodnerful creations on your blog, so keep up the wonderful work!!
(p.s. the word verification for this comment is SWEAR - how bout that!).

  3. Hi Lisa - hopefully all is well and tsunami risk passed? I agree with your decision to vet comments, but cannot understand why people feel the need to make nasty comments here? Show us the pink and lime quilt - I think it sounds nice! xx

  4. I have had nasty comments before (and a few spam type, too!) and I have deleted them. Honestly, I don't see any reason to post a negative comment on someone else's blog. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." So, I agree with the steps you've taken. Besides who are you crafting for anyway!

  5. 44? In your prime girl!!! Live it up and enoy it! Happy birthday in advance.
I cannot understand why anyone would be negative abut another's work....the whole point of being arty and creative is to use our own taste and style in our work. Whoever left the negative comment obviously is not a try crafter lol.
Lots of UFOs ( now WIPS lol). looking forward to seeing that creativity flow ;-)

  6. Well, the bags aren't my cup of tea either, but if you like them, that's ok for me :) I can see you putted a lot of effort into them, and that is what counts.

It seems you have a lot of UFO's, start showing (and maybe finishing) them girl ;-)

    Love, Babs

  7. HI Lisa, Nah, don't worry about turning 44, the 40's are great years. I leave them this year but certainly don't feel like I should be. I have only just caught up with the fact that you had a mean comment left on your blog. Gosh some people think of no one but themselves. If you can't say something nice then don't say anything. I love looking at all of your goodies. And as you say imagine how boring life would be if we all liked the same thing, it would be horrid.
Sadly there are some not nice people out and about and we can't avoid them all, but its a learning experience when we meet them and we are able to be thankful for those others who enhance our lives.
    big hugs
    Deb
